Cedar Hill doctor faces serious consequences for health care fraud charges

A Cedar Hill doctor who operates several small Texas hospitals was recently accused in a federal indictment of instructing employers to change correctly entered diagnostic codes in billings to Medicare and Medicaid programs. According to the charges, the codes were changed, deleted or incorrectly sequenced in such a way that they departed from the actual diagnoses of the patients.

Dallas man faces federal prosecution under recently passed law

On Tuesday, a Dallas man was hauled into federal court on a charge of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. The 22-year-old man allegedly shined a laser beam into a Dallas police helicopter to see how far it would go. According to federal authorities, the intensity of the laser beam obscured the vision of the pilot and impaired the pilot's ability to control the aircraft.

Fraud charges against Dallas socialite Erin Hill dismissed

Fraud charges against Dallas socialite Erin Hill were recently dismissed. Erin Hill, along with her husband Al Hill, had been charged in an alleged attempt to defraud a bank on a mortgage loan application. Al Hill is one of the heirs to the H.L. Hunt oil fortune, and has reportedly been involved in a contentious lawsuit with his family over his share of the inheritance. A settlement was reached between he and Al Hill Jr., his estranged father, back in 2010, though that case is currently on appeal.

Former Mavericks star enters diversion program on fraud charges

Former Mavericks star Dirk Minniefield, now 51 years old, recently had a trial on fraud charges cancelled after prosecutors agreed to allow him to enter into a diversion program. Participation in the program will allow him to avoid conviction on charges stemming from an alleged $10 million mortgage scheme in Texas.
